Family

Marjorie East, a beloved mother and grandmother, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at age 55. Marjorie and her family lived with her progressing symptoms of memory loss and personality change for 10 years. With over 5 million Americans currently suffering from Alzheimer’s, you may know from your own experience how hard this is on both the person dealing with the disease, and the whole family.

Now, two of Marjorie’s sisters, four of her nieces, and her daughter Gloria Rouse have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Marjorie and Gloria are our principal broker Michelle Dearing’s grandmother and mother, and Gloria has become like a mother to the whole Midtown Associates team.

This makes finding a cure a very personal cause to all of us at Midtown Associates. That’s why we created a team for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, held on September 16 at NWACC in Bentonville.

Our Goals

Our work with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which will include walking as a team every year, has several goals. The first, of course, is to support the Alzheimer’s Association in finding a cure for Alzheimer’s.

Our second goal is to raise awareness for prevention. For example, one study suggests that a third of dementia cases could be prevented through simple measures like preventing or treating hearing loss, as well as keeping up a physically, mentally, and socially active lifestyle throughout our lives and into our senior years. We think that family and community can be a huge part of making those preventive measures a reality for everyone!

Our third goal is to learn how to support our family and friends who are dealing with this difficult disease. Because we know the power of community, we believe that getting plugged into the Alzheimer’s support community will help us learn and share ways to cope with grace, positivity, and dignity.

Walk with Us

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, don’t hesitate to seek out resources for information and support, like the Arkansas chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Please stay tuned as we continue on this journey of hope and finding strength in our community. If you would like to join with us, you can donate to our team’s fundraiser through the end of 2017, and of course we would love for you to walk with us next year!
